The Second Pavillion

Continue on along Bowen Road passing on your right a pavilion with a roof supported by four red columns. It was built by a Wan Chai committee (kai fong) to provide rest and shelter from sun or rain to weary walkers who have just climbed the steep slope from Wan Chai. Take a moment to look at the nearby clump of bamboo with its intricate carved graffiti of Chinese poetry. Cross Wan Chai Gap Road. This path from Wan Chai leads up over the hill and down the other side to Aberdeen. Now cross the bridge over the huge storm nullah (see Glossary) with its sitting-out area on the right. During a rainstorm in recent years, the swirling waters washed a young English boy playing on the banks here down into the sea, never to be seen again.
